Giuseppe Cringoli

Full Professor of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production

Giuseppe Cringoli, graduated in Veterinary Medicine, is Full Professor in Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases (VET/06) at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples Federico II and since 2006, he is Diplomate of the European Veterinary Parasitology College. He was Director of the Regional Center for Monitoring of Parasitic Diseases (Campania Region) (2001-2022) and President of School of Veterinary Medicine and Agricultural Sciences (2020-2022).

He was Coordinator of the PhD course of “Veterinary Sciences” (2012-2018) and of the EVPC Standard Residency Training Programme (2017-2022) at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples Federico II. Main research interests are epidemiology, diagnosis and control of protozoa, helminthes and artropoda of veterinary interest. He is inventor of the FLOTAC techniques, new diagnostic methods for uro/copromicroscopic diagnosis of parasites in animals and humans.

Giuseppe Cringoli is honorary member of the International Scientific Society GnosisGIS and co-founder (as well as member of the editorial board) of the international scientific journal Geospatial Health. Since 2020, he is Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Diagnosis of Intestinal Helminths and Protozoa (WHO CC ITA-116). Since 2023, he is President of the Italian Society of Sheep and Goat Pathology and Production (SIPAOC) and Coordinator of the Teachers' College of Italian Society of Parasitology (SOIPA). He was scientific responsible of research unit of projects of international importance, e.g. PARASOL (FP6 – Project FOOD-CT-2005-02285), GLOWORM (FP7-KBBE-2011-5).

He was also coordinator and responsible of research unit of projects of national importance (PRIN 1994-95, 1997-99, 1999-2001, 2001-03, 2008-10). He has been invited lecturer/keynote speaker/convenor/chairperson at symposia/scientific sessions of national and international congresses. The scientific production in veterinary parasitology consists of over 700 publications, published on national and international scientific journals with peer referee and/or presented at national and international conferences, besides book chapters. His h-index is 44 (Scopus).

Laura Rinaldi

Full Professor of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production

Laura Rinaldi is Full Professor of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases (VET/06) at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples Federico II. In 2014, she obtained a PhD in Veterinary Science at Ghent University, Belgium. She became Associate Member of the European Veterinary Parasitology College in 2006 and received the International “Peter Nansen Young Scientist” Award given by the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) in 2011.

She was scientific responsible of research unit of projects of national and international importance, e.g. PARASOL (FP6 – Project FOOD-CT-2005-02285), GLOWORM (FP7-KBBE-2011-5) and the COST Actions CAPARA (FA COST Action FA0805), EurNegVec (BMBS COST Action td 1303) and COMBAR (COST Action CA 16230). Currently, she is Principal Investigator of the international project ECHINO-SAFE-MED (PRIMA project - Area 2-Farming systems) and scientific responsible of research unit of the two international projects, e.g. LIFE MiCliFeed (LIFE20 CCM/GR/001703) e PREPARE4VBD (Horizon 2020, SEP-210673553). Since 2016, she is ERASMUS Coordinator at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples Federico II.

Since 2020, she is Director WHO Collaborating Centre for Diagnosis of Intestinal Helminths and Protozoa (WHO CC ITA 116). Since 2022 she is deputy director at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples Federico II and Director of the Regional Center for Monitoring of Parasitic Diseases (Campania Region). She is co-founders and Associate Editor of the Journal Geospatial Health, Editor of the Journal Parasitology and Section Editor of the Journal BMC Veterinary Research.

The main research topics of Laura Rinaldi are focusing on epidemiology (using geospatial tools), diagnosis (using traditional and innovative techniques) and control of protozoa, helminthes and artropoda of veterinary and human interest. The scientific production in parasitology consists of more than 600 publications: papers published on national and international scientific journals and proceedings of national and international conferences besides booklets/chapter of text books. Maria Paola Maurelli

Associate Professor in Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production

Maria Paola was graduated in Veterinary Biotechnology in 2004 and obtained a PhD in Biology, Pathology and Environmental Hygiene in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, in 2008. Since 2019 she is Associate Professor in Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples Federico II. Since 2020 is member of WHO WHO Collaborating Centre for Diagnosis of Intestinal Helminths and Protozoa (WHO CC ITA 116) and member of the Interuniversity Center for Parasitology Studies (CIRPAR).

Since 2021 is member of the Orientation commitment of the University of Naples Federico II as representative of the School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of Universitu of Naples Federico II. Since 2022 is member of Department board of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production of University of Naples Federico II and component of the Council of the School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. Her main research interests are epidemiology, diagnosis (with classical and innovative techniques) and control of protozoa, helminths and arthropods of animals and humans.

She has participated at the development and the validation of innovative (FLOTAC and Mini-FLOTAC) techniques for copromicroscopic diagnosis of helminths and protozoa in animals and humans. Moreover, she has developed new diagnostic techniques for the identification and control of Echinococcus granulosus. Currently, she is scientific responsible of research unit of the national project “Leishmaniasis in Agrigento, Caltanissetta and Palermo province: human outbreaks and animal reservoirs” and “Study on prevalence of neosporosis and besnoitiosis in cattle and water buffaloes in Lazio and Tuscany”. She is Coordinator for University of Naples Federico II of the spoke 2- Arthropod vectors and vector-borne pathogens of the INF-ACT project: One Health Basic and Translational Research Actions Addressing Unmet Needs on Emerging Infectious Diseases” -“Emerging infectious diseases”, MUR PE00000007- National Plan of recovery and resilience (PNRR) 2022-2025.

She is member of the National Plan of recovery and resilience 2023-2026- spoke 3- Future Artificial Intelligence Research (hereafter FAIR), MUR PE00000013. She is and was involved in several national (PRIN 2006-2008, 2008-2010) and international scientific projects (PARASOL (FP6 - Project FOOD-CT-2005-02285), GLOWORM (FP7-KBBE-2011-5), Bilateral project Galileo Italy-France (G16-56), STARWORMS- Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (2016-2020), PRIMA ECHINO-SAFE-MED (2021-2024), HORIZON PREPARE (2021-2025), CONICET-CUIA project (2022-2024) and in the COST Actions: CAPARA (FA COST Action FA0805), EurNegVec (BMBS COST Action TD1303) e COMBAR (COST Action CA16230. She was member of organizing committee and traineer of several international courses on FLOTAC and Mini-FLOTAC techniques. She is also Associate Editor of BMC Veterinary Research and Journal of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences. Antonio Bosco

Researcher in Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production

Antonio Bosco is Researcher in Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases (VET/06) at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Productions, University of Naples Federico II, Italy. In 2014, he obtained a PhD in “Biology, Pathology and Environmental Hygiene in Veterinary Medicine” at the University of Naples Federico II. He is European Veterinary Parasitology College resident under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe Cringoli and Prof. Laura Rinaldi at the Laboratory of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases, Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples Federico II, Italy.

He is Vice-President of “Mediterranean Federation for health and Production of Ruminants (FEMESPRUM)” and Secretary of “Italian Society of Pathology and Breeding of Sheep and Goats (SIPAOC). His main research interests are epidemiology, diagnosis (with classical and innovative techniques) and control of protozoa, helminths and arthropods of animals and humans. He has participated at the development and the validation of innovative (Mini-FLOTAC) techniques for copromicroscopic diagnosis of helminths and protozoa in animals and humans.

Currently, he is Principal Investigator of the project PARALT (PRIN-2022 PNRR) and project ParaFeed (PSR Regione Campania). Furthermore, he is involved in several national and international scientific projects: GLOWORM (FP7-KBBE-2011-5), Bilateral project Galileo Italy-France (G16-56), STARWORMS- Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (2016-2020), Horizon 2020 “PREPARE” (2021-2025), PRIMA H2020 “ECHINO-SAFE-MED” (2021-2024), LIFE “MiCliFeed” (2021-2026) and in the COST Actions: CAPARA (FA COST Action FA0805), EurNegVec (BMBS COST Action TD1303) e COMBAR (COST Action CA16230).

Lavinia Ciuca

Researcher in Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production

Lavinia Ciuca is Researcher in Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases (VET/06) at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples Federico II. She graduated the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Iasi University of Life Sciences 1842, Romania, in 2012. In 2016, she obtained her first PhD in Veterinary Science at Iasi University, Romania and the second PhD in the same area at the University of Naples, Federico II in 2023.

She finished her standard residency training program (SRTP) of the European Veterinary Parasitology College at the University of Federico II in 2020. She is part of the board of the European Scientific of Dirofilariosis and Angiostrongylosis Association (ESDA) from 2022 and member of the Italian Society of Parasitology (SOIPA) from 2019. Currently she is part of the international project PREPARE4VBD (Horizon 2020-2025, SEP-210673553).

She is reviewer of the Frontiers Veterinary Science, section Parasitology, journal. The main research topics of Lavinia Ciuca are focusing on epidemiology, clinical diagnosis and control of vector-borne diseases.
